Yemen's new permanent rep. to UN presents credentials to Guterres

Yemen's new permanent representative to the United Nations, Abdullah Ali al-Saadi, has presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Al-Saadi appreciated the enormous efforts Guterres is exerting to push for a permanent political solution to the conflict between the government and the Houthi coupist militia based on the three agreed upon terms of reference for peace; the GCC Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dailogue and the UN Security Council resolutions mainly resolution 2216 (2015).

He said the Yemeni government has always been in favor of a permanent political solution that puts an end to the Houthi coup to allow for the return of peace and stability to Yemen. "We have repeatedly offered and will continue to offer concessions to end the suffering of the Yemeni people." Al-Saadi however urged the international community to pressure the Houthi militia to comply with the resolutions of the United Nations and to the recent Stockholm Agreement before a new round of peace talks are convened.

On his part, Guterres praised President Abd-Rabbu Mansur Hadi and his government for offering concessions to reach a peaceful settlement to the conflict. He especially appreciated Hadi's interest in peace with a view to ending the suffering of the Yemeni people.
