Kamal calls for ratcheting up awareness to discourage violence against women

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, EbtihajAl-Kamal, has called on civil society organizations concerned with women's rights to participate actively in a 16-day public campaign to discourage violence against women by ratcheting the public awareness on that.

In a press Kamal issued on,November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women she said that women in the province still under the control of the Houthis are suffering all forms of violence; murder, displacement, abductionand involvement in the coupist militia'sviolence acts.

Al-Kamal pointed out that reports of local and international organizations confirm the responsibility of militia for the death of more than 120 women and the injury of 115 others in 2018 by direct shelling and planting of landmines in residential areas.

She said that most of the women victims of the militia were in the province of Hodeidah, Hajja and Taiz.

Among the victims were two women killed in the bombing of BaniJaberIDPs camp in Al-Khowkha Hodeidah, of the militia's terrorist crimes.

She said that many women also died as a result of diseases and lack of health care services in areas controlled by militia.

The Houthis also kidnapped more than 20 female students from the University of Sana'a after they protested against the militia's starvation and repression policy against then people in Sana'a. The militia took the studentsto unknown locations and hid them for days.

Al-Kamal stressed the importance of the international organizations organization's expression of condemnation of the militia's crimes and to do something to press the militia to stop.

She called on those organizations to actively support women's development programs and improve women's quality of life on all levels.
