Chinese Ambassador says Sino-Yemeni friendship relations have long history

The new Chinese Ambassador to Yemen Kang Yong said that the Chinese-Yemeni relations have a long history dating back 2000 yearsas Chinese traders used to arrive in Yemen as an important station on the Silk Road.

In a press statement to Saba, Yong said Yemen and China have for the past 62 years been sharing together the times of ease and stress and exchanging trust and cooperation.

The relations especially started to develop steadily and the results of such cooperation have been fruitful since the beginning of the bilateral diplomatic relations in 1956, he said.

He pointed out that the relations have been further strengthened after the establishment of the diplomatic relations, especially after China implemented the reform and opening-up policy.

He said that China supported Yemen in its different stages; during the 26 September Revolution of 1962 and the reunification in 1990; since the beginning of the unrest in 2011; and during the political transition process.

He said that the Sino-Yemeni friendship enjoys a deep economic foundation. He cited the fact that China is the largest trade partner of Yemen since 2005, and that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries is worth more than 5 billion US dollars. In addition, China is a major source of foreign investments and assistance to Yemen.
