ADEN-SABA
Yemen's political parties have condemned the continuous spate of assassinationstargeting social figures including mosque preachers, politicians and people who spearheaded the local resistance against the Houthiinvasion of Aden in 2015.
In a joint statement on Saturday, the political parties in the temporary capital, Aden, expressed "strong condemnation of these crimes which target the innocent and destabilize the public peace."
Tens of people were murdered by drive-by shooting, bombs and other assassination ways in the streets of Aden over the past years. Most recently one activist from the Islah party Ali al-Daoosi was assassinated andanother, DabwanGhaleb, narrowly escaped assassination in the city,
Other activists were arrested in Abyan province as well.
"We confirm that targeting political activists from any party or societal sect is an attack on political life in its entirety," said the parties. The parties said the murders aim "to undermine the state institutions and play into the hands of the violent groups including the Houthi militia."
The parties called on the Interior Ministry to assume its responsibility of merging the security apparatuses into one regular apparatus that answers to a unified command and ensuring that Aden becomes a city for political and cultural pluralism and for peaceful coexistence.
