Yemen has affirmed that the Iran-backed Houthi militia poses a direct threat to regional peace and security and to international navigation, saying the group is a tool used to undermine Yemen’s sovereignty and stability, disrupt basic services, and obstruct the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

Askar solicits Dutch support to develop National Commission of Enquiry

Minister of Human Rights Dr. Mohammed Askar discussed with the Dutch Ambassador to Yemen Irma Marie Van Dueren'scooperation between Yemen and the Netherlands in the field of human rights and supporting the National Commission in charge of investigating allegations of human rights abuses in the country.

The support asked for includes capacity building and other necessary technical support.

The meeting reviewed the developments of human rights situation in Yemen since the Houthi militia mounted their coup against the Yemeni state in September 2014.

They also discussed joint coordination for the 39th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva tobuild on the HRC's resolution 31/36 adopted in September 2017.

The Minister of Human Rights pointed out that the Houthi militiais committing serious violations of international humanitarian law by using civilians as human shields. He stressed that the government has given opportunities for the UN envoy's peace mediation bids, but these efforts collided with the stubbornness of the rebel Houthimilitia.

He expressed Yemen's aspiration for more support from the Netherlands and the other European Union countries in thesedifficult the Yemeni people are going through .

The Dutch ambassador confirmed her country's continued support to the government and people of Yemen, hoping that peace will soon be restored to all parts of Yemen.
