Yemen's Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, Mohamed Taha Mustafa, met with the Director for Middle East & North Africa Directorate at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Johan Vercammen.
Mustafa delivered a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in response to the European Council's 25 June conclusions on Yemen, at the culmination of a meeting between EU foreign minister with the UNGeneral Special Envoy (UNSE)Martin Griffiths.
Mustafa stressed the Yemeni government'ssupport for Griffiths' efforts broker peace and intent to continue cooperating with him in the same manner as it cooperated with the former NSE Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed.
Mustafa reiterated that thelack of breakthrough in the Yemeni crisis is attributed to the Houthis' maximalist rejection and avoidance of all peace brokerage attempts, owing to the militia's pursuit of Iran's agenda in the region.
The Belgian official, on his part, confirmed his country's support for all steps that may lead to peace in order to end the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
In a separate meeting with the chairman of the EU Political and Security Council Alexander Kmentt,Mustafa handed over Yemen's response statement to Kmentt and noted that the concessions offered by President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's government toward peace need to go noticed and appreciated.
He stressed to Kmenttthe importance of the EU's involvement in pressuring the Iranian regime to stop its military and financial assistance to the coupist militia.
