Al-Kamal: War turned two million child to labors, militia recruit 20 thousand in its ranks

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor De Ebtihaj Al-Kamal said:" Statistics indicate that there are two million child labors as a result of a devastating war triggered by Houthi putschist militia, besides that the militia has recruited above 20 thousand child in breach of International Conventions and Child Protection Legislations".

In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) on World Day Against Child Labor-June 12, Al-Kamal stated that war has resulted in preventing more than 4.5 million child from education, out of them 1 million and 600 thousand child have been prevented from joining schools over the past couple of years because the militia have bombarded—partially or totally damaged 2372 schools, turned some 1500 schools into detention centers and military barracks.

The Minister said:" We mark today along with all nations the World Day Against Child Labor whilst childhood reality in Yemen extremely misery due to the warfare the militia has imposed on the Yemeni people. As a result the figure of child labor has been growing increasingly alarming because of the war that claimed the lives of thousands of parents-bread earners and produced unspeakable hardships".

She noted that the Ministry has been working in coordination with international donors on establishing rehabilitation centers to help re-habilitate and integrate children into the society appropriately.
