RIYADH-SABA
The air defense unit of Abha International Airport, south of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has detected an unidentified object as it flew in the direction of the airport and destroyed it as per the rules of engagement.
The spokesman of the Arab Coalition Colonel Turki al-Maliki said on Saturday that as the Arab Coalition experts examined the wreckage of the downed object they found that it was an unmanned drone operated by the Houthi militia. The drone which bears Iranian specifications belongs to the Qasef/Ababil, a category of Iran-made UAVs.
Maliki said that the drone was aiming to attack a civilian airport the protection of which is provided for by the International Humanitarian Law.
He said that the destruction of the drone left minimal damages but fortunately no casualties.
He said that the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition precisely tracked down the Houthi terrorists who assemble the drones to a workshop in in Saada where they were struck and killed.
He said that Joint Forces Command will hit with an iron fist anyone who gets involved in terrorist attacks that compromise the safety of citizens, residents and economic and vital capabilities of Saudi Arabia.
