The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has launched a workshop for training Yemeni experts on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (otherwise known as IPC scale). The IPC scale is a tool food security analysis and decision-making.

The 10-day workshop was launched in the temporary capital Aden on Monday, it has brought 35 national and international organizations from Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Shabwa, Dhale'a, and Hadhramout.

The workshop's aim is to train the attendants to do rigorous analysis of food shortages and insecurity in Yemen based on the international standards of analysis.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Eng. Amin Abdullah Baqader, pointed to the importance of creating a comprehensive database of food security to identify areas of interventions in various Yemeni provinces and to facilitate access to the vulnerable groups.

For his part, the Director of Enhancement of Food Security and Resilient Livelihoods Programme pointed out that having an adequate analysis of the food security situation at this stage is very important to determine the needs and ways of emergency interventions.
