Decentralizing relief activity discussed

Minister of Local Administration, the Head of the Supreme Relief Committee Abdulraqeeb Fath has urged the UN organizations to implement decentralization of the relief activities for facilitating provision of relief aid to all Yemeni provinces.

In his meeting with the Representative of Office of Coordination Humanitarian Affairs (OTCHA) on Thursday, Fath valued commencing procedures for opening offices to the UN organizations in Hadhramout in the framework of decentralizing relief activities.

He presented to the OTCHA's representative a number of different relief projects associated with supporting stability in liberated provinces in its first phase and transferring to the third phase of relief support.

Minister Fath confirmed that the government seeks to have all Arab, regional and international organizations existed in the transitional capital of Aden to be near the government for coordination.

He pointed out that there are around 40 UN organizations operating from Aden.

The humanitarian situation in Yemen requires expansion of relief activities of all organizations in all fields, said Fath.

He praised GCC states, led by Saudi Arabia, for their big and active role and other donor bodies in the council for providing different sorts of relief to the Yemeni people.

For his part, the representative of OCHA thanked the government of Yemen and the committee for their support, showing readiness for more cooperation.
