The new United Nations Secretary General's Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffith has said he will provide his a framework for talks between Yemeni parties during the forthcoming two months, confirming conflict's solution will be achieved only if Yemenis put aside their differences and react to dialogue and abandon battles.
"The political solution to end this war is indeed available. Its outlines are no secret: the end of fighting, withdrawal of forces and handover of heavy weapons in key locations together, together, with an agreement on the establishment of an inclusive Government, one which brings the parties together in a consensus to build peace," Griffith said in his first briefing before the UN Security Council on Tuesday.
He added that this issue is achievable and the Yemeni parties I talked to told me they wanted this quickly and they would work with the UN for accomplishing it.
He valued President Hadi's attitude saying: I am grateful to President Hadi for his time, his patience and his willingness to put the concerns of his people first. His Government has spared no effort to ensure I understand their positions."
He also expressed concern over increasing number of shells towards Saudi Arabia during the past few weeks.
He confirmed that he will do his best to have reconciliation between Yemeni parties and stressed on integration of the UNSC on the situation in Yemen.
He concluded his briefing that without diplomatic efforts, the mediation will fail.
