FM, UN special envoy discuss preparations for peace talks

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul-Malik al-Mekhlafi held a meeting with the head of the government team to peace consultations and the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths.
Griffiths briefed the meeting on the efforts he made to prepare for the resumption of consultations, to rebuild confidence between the government and Houthi rebels with a view to eventually reach a just and sustainable political solution.
Al-Mekhlafi stressed the importance of restarting (peace talks) from where the parties had left in Kuwait in 2016 and implementing what had been agreed upon then,taking into account any time-related amendments.
He expressed the government's willingness to cooperate and facilitate Griffiths' mission and arrange meetings between him and all Yemeni stakeholders based in the government-held areas or abroad.
For his part, Griffiths said that the United Nations is committed to all the documents and resolutions issued by it and that he is going to meet with all the Yemeni stakeholders and hear from them.
