KUWAIT-SABA
Kuwait on Friday has renewed its commitment to support Yemen's unity and sovereignty and to reject any interference in Yemen's internal affairs.
Addressing the 18th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Acting Assistant of Kuwait's Foreign Minister for international organizations Mr. Nasser Al-Hain said that political settlement in Yemen should be based on the three agreed terms of reference: the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of Yemen's National Dialogue Conference and the UN Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen, in particular resolution no. 2216.
"The State of Kuwait has made great efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Yemen; For more than three months in 2016 Kuwait hosted political consultations between the Yemeni parties under the auspices of the United Nations," he said, "out of our concern for the security and stability of the brotherly Yemen."
He expressed regret that the talks did not culminate in a settlement. He reiterated Kuwait's support holding new talks.
He condemned the Houthi missile attacks against Saudi Arabia, which undoubtedly reflect the Houthis' violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
