Minister of Information Muammar al-Eryani said on Friday that "the crime which Houthis committed against Jamal al-Maamari in their jail for three years highlights thousands of other detainees are going through in the rebels' jails."
Al-Maamari,a tribal chieftain in his 20s, was released from a three year long imprisonment in Houthi jails in Sana'a but paralyzed because of lengthy torture.
In a statement to Saba, al-Eryani called on the international community especialy the United Nations, the UN Security Council and human rights oranizations to form a panel to inspect the status of thousnads of detainees held in the rebels jails for three years now. Some of them are feared dead under torture.
Al-Eryani called on the international community to "pressure for the release all the detained state leaders, politicians and journalists in the militia's custody." Among the detainees are Major Gen. Mohammed al-Subeihi, Maj. Gen. Faysal Rajab and political activist Mohammed Qahtan.
