GCC renews commitment on supporting Yemen's humanitarian needs

The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdullatif al-Zayyani renewed commitment of the GCC countries on responding to humanitarian and development needs in Yemen.
In a speech he made in the United Nation Donor in Geneva on humanitarian aid to Yemen on Tuesday, he said the GCC countries have launched an office for coordinating humanitarian and relief aid in 2016.
The gulf countries and its funds have provided Yemen with USD 4.1 billion since 2015 and the total development since2006 have exceeded USD13 billion, said al-Zayyani.
He also confirmed commitment of the GCC countries in protecting Yemeni People and supporting their government through rescuing them from Houthi militia, which violates all international laws by targeting civilians and threatening security of civilians of neighboring countries by firing ballistic rockets.
He valued efforts exerted by the UN and key sponsors for holding this conference, pointing out that the GCC General Secretariat is setting up a program for re-qualifying Yemeni economy and facilitating its integration to the Gulf Economy.
He added that the General Secretariat is preparing for holding an international conference for reconstruction in Yemen as soon as Yemenis reach admirable political solution.
He confirmed that achieving peace in Yemen and restoring stability of the Republic of Yemen requires political solution based on the GCC Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the UN Resolution 2216.
He called on the international community and donors to provide more support to Yemen and supporting GCC countries for alleviating suffering of the Yemeni people.
