Deputy Premier, Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Al-Mikhlafi met Sunday with the US ambassador to our country Mathew Tuller.
Yemeni-American bilateral ties were discussed during the meeting.
The Foreign Minister has made clear that the government is keen to make peace that is based on the three references agreed on nationally, regionally and internationally: outcomes of National Dialogue, GCC's Initiative and International Security resolution 2216.
Al-Mikhlafi voiced the Yemeni government's support for the UN newly appointed envoy Marten Griffith. He noted that it happened that the government supported earlier the efforts made by the former UN' s envoy Isma'il Ould Sheikh Ahmed but Houthis did their own best to block any attempt aimed to reach durable peace.
He stated that the government already signed a proposal for peace after more than three months consultations in Kuwait, however the Houthis refused to sign at the last minutes, as Ould Sheikh noted in his last briefing to the UNSC.
Al-Mikhalfi stressed that it is important to join efforts by international community to press for ending Iranian weapons supplies to Houthis.
The US ambassador has reiterated that American government will continue to support the Yemeni government against the risks and challenges it has been facing as well as in order to bring about peace in the country.
