Suspected diphtheria cases have reached 933 since registering the first case in August 2017 to February, 3, 2018 in 20 provinces, 62 of the registered cases have dead.

Deputy Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Ali al-Walidi told Saba that the disease have been spread in Ibb and Hodeida and there are huge efforts exerted by Public Health Office and Population and the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the UAE Red Crescent, as well as King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Activities for eradicating this epidemic.

"There is vaccination and health awareness campaign for facing this disease and limiting its eruption in other provinces and it will be carried out during the forthcoming period to cover different districts across the targeted provinces, where infected cases are registered," he added.

He pointed out that the hospitals and central labs have been supplied with medical equipment for receiving infected cases with diphtheria and health cadre has been trained on curative process, furthermore a communication center for informing on new cases from across the country was made.

He confirmed that the medical and quick response teams, in cooperation with international partners, have been playing their role to contain the disease.

He stressed on epidemic surveillance, checking up test samples, having medication, health awareness and quick report on new cases.
