Mujalli: 21 million in need of urgent aids, lacking clear water

Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Othman Mujalli said:" More 21 million of the Yemeni people were in need of urgent assistance, out of them 17,8 million couldn't meet their needs of food".

Speaking at the 41st Round of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, Mujalli stated that 8.4 million Yemeni have been facing looming starvation, with 24% increase above 2017.

The Minister noted that 19.4 million of the population are lacking clean water and sanitation service ( as 9.8 million people can't access water due to the armed conflict), while 14.1 million are lacking adequate health care. Moreover, some 2.7 million of the population have been forced to flee their own origin regions to other Yemeni areas (Internally Displaced) or sought for refuge in other countries.

"Yemen has been going through an unprecedented hardships and miserable humanitarian circumstances since the coup d'état staged by Houthi militia in September 2014', said Mujalli.

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation asked for resuming the IFAD' s actions in Yemen to help improving living conditions for the population, mainly in the rural areas.
