Yemen has called on the United Nations and peace sponsoring countries to condemn the Houthi crimes and "urgently intervene to stop them."

The country's Foreign Ministry addressed an urgent letter to the UN Secretary General AntónioGuterres, Guterres's Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail OuldCheikh, the ambassadors of the G. 18+1 countries sponsoring Yemen peace, and the OHCHR to inform them of escalating Houthi abuses against civilian oppositionists

The letter demanded them to act quickly to "save those detainees whom the Houthi militia holds captive in military sites to serve as human shields" and other detainees in other prisons across the northern provinces.

From the start of this month, the Houthi militia unleashed a brutal campaign in north Yemen against the leaders and grassroots of the GPC party members including the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh whom the militia killed and paraded his corpse, said the statement. The rebel militia executed prisoners among myriad abuses.

"These acts are terrorist and are not different from the acts of any other terrorist group," said the letter. "They represent the terrorist approach that the militia has been pursuing since its birth; physically eliminating oppositionists and intimidating the whole society into submission to their agenda."

The letter said the Houthi abuses are "a breach of the internaationaal humanitarian law and crimes against humanity."
