Yemen condemns Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital
[07/12/2017 12:58]

ADEN-SABA
Yemen has condemned the US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving of the US embassy to the holy city from Tel Aviv.

In a statement to SABA, Yemen's foreign ministry renewed the stance of the government and the people of Yemen by the Palestinian people in their right to self-determination on their occupied territories with Jerusalem to be their capital.

The statement said the US decision was "a violation of the international law and UN resolutions including the UNSC resolution 242 (1967), resolution 478 (1980) and resolution 2334 (2016).

Yemen warned of the consequences of pressing ahead in implementing the US decision and imposition of de facto occupation by the power of repression. Yemen said that the move may inflame the conflict in the already conflict-torn region and may speed up the rise of terrorist groups because of agitating the sentiments of the Arab and Muslim nations given Jerusalem's spiritual, historical and cultural symbolism for Muslims and Christians alike.

The government called on the international community to stand against the implementation of this decision which, if happens, will undoubtedly undermine the peaceful transformation in the region and prevent the establishment of a just comprehensive peace.

The government said the international community's overdue humanitarian and moral obligation now is to achieve peace as per the international resolutions which provide for an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
