Minister of Transports Murad al-Halimi said on Wednesday that continuing arms smuggling to the Houthi-Saleh militias poses a threat not only to Yemenis but to the safety of international security and shipping, in the most important (Yemeni) waterways that connect the world's continents.
Addressing the 30th Conference for International Maritime Organizations in London, al-Halimi said that the government is working with the Arab Coalition under Saudi and Emirati leadership and other friendly countries to stop this kind of breaches which compromise the regional and global peace and security. "By conducting marine patrols to monitor those activities and safeguard the security of international marine waterways.
He said that Yemen and the UN have set up a joint technical team to guarantee that the aid shipments bound for the rebels-controlled seaports make a smooth flow while subjected to a scrutiny.
He affirmed Yemen's pursuance of boosting the regional and global cooperation to guarantee the security and safety of marine environment.
He said Yemen is committed to fighting piracy and any form of activities that might endanger the international shipping.
