Marib hosts one million and half of IDP, says deputy governor

Marib province has been struggling to cope with the exodus of Internally Displaced People (IDP). The total number of IDP are estimated at one million and 553 thousands, according to the Deputy governor Dr Abdullah Miftah.

Prior the crisis Marib population were 348 thousands distributed to 477 villages in 14 districts.

Dr Miftah made an urgent appeal for help, calling on all national, regional and international to move immediately, provide the urgently needed humanitarian aid and relief including food, medicine and other staffs, he declared.

He told the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) basic services like hospitals, schools, electricity and roads are struggling to cope with the great demands.

There are more than 12 thousands of IDP scattered around Marib dam banks lacking all kinds of humanitarian aid and relief. Al-khaniq comp also hosts some 5190 of IDP, moreover there are150 thousands of IDP families throughout the province,

The deputy governor made clear that there an urgent need for humanitarian aid and relief. "Some 40 thousands baskets of food need to be met immediately, 40 thousands of tenets, some 120thousands of blankets all are urgently needed", said Miftah.
