Houthi-Saleh militias violated all child rights laws, says Minister

The Minister of Social Affairs said that the Houthi-Saleh rebel militias have violated all the laws that provide for child rights and caused the killing of hundreds of children including by the "compulsory conscription of children" to the fight.

In a statement to Saba on 20th November which marks the Children's Day, Dr. Ibtihaj al-Kamal pleaded with the "concerned international organizations to pay attention to Yemeni kids and step up the child protection programs for children subjected to killing, displacement and recruitment to military roles by the Houthi-Saleh miltias."

"The 20th November the Children's Day comes this time with Yemeni children going through the hardest and most wretched times especially in the areas that the Houthi-Saleh militias control," she said.

"The situation of children and childhood in Yemen ushers in a catastrophe as a result of the increased number of recruited child soldiers and of child dropouts from schools owing to the militias' closure and militarization of their schools," she said.
She said that what the militias instill to children a new curricular that "calls for violence, hatred and racism."
