[11/11/2017 02:10]

PARIS-SABA
The Minister of Information Muammar al-Eryani said on Saturday that the media has started over in the government-held regions of Yemen after a while of closure because of the Houthi rebel militias' crackdown on outlets.

Addressing a seminar entitled "How to Protect the Yemeni Cultural Heritage" organized by the Tracks Center for Studies and Development and Avicenna Institute in Paris on Friday, he said that 21 print media have resumed operating in the temporary capital Aden and in Hadhramout and Marib. "Of them three are government-run newspapers," he said.

He said: "The Houthi militias caused the retreat of democratic values and the pluralism and freedom of press after they had been pioneering in the region."

"The Yemeni Government is working to promote the values of coexistence and renounce violence and racism by adopting a balanced media discourse that values peace … and guarantees rights and freedoms to all Yemenis."

Journalist Anwar Malik talked of the Hothi militias violations against the country's cultural heritage, the tangible and intangible, to the extent of infusing sectarian hatred among the changes they introduced into the school textbooks.

He described the Houthi militias as a spitting image of the other terror groups of al-Qaeda and ISIL in targeting the people, their cultural identity, history and civilization.
