RIYADH-SABA
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulmalik al-Mikhlafi and the Executive Director of the European Institute of Peace Martin Griffiths discussed on Wednesday Yemen's current situation and means of realizing peace and reviving talks.
Al-Mikhlafi reviewed changes and challenges Yemen has been facing since 2011; the National Dialogue Conference and its outcomes, drafting the constitution, Houthi-Saleh's coup and the consecutive rounds of peace talks in Geneva, Biel and Kuwait, which the government agreed on all suggestions and initiatives of the United Nations but rejected by Houthi-Saleh's rebels.
"The government is still extending a hand for realizing just and permanent peace in Yemen for the safety of our people and our country and for our satisfaction that the peaceful solution, in the end, is the final solution in Yemen in accordance with the three agreed upon references," said al-Mikhlafi.
He praised efforts of the European Institute for supporting international efforts for reaching a political solution to the clashes in Yemen, pointing out to closer viewpoints of the government with the Institute on the solution in Yemen.
For his part, Griffiths expressed pleasure for the meeting that comes in the framework of consultations and exchanging views aiming at realizing peace in Yemen, pointing out he will make a tour in a number of Western and Arab capitals and come back for exchanging ideas with the Yemeni government for crystalizing a vision.
