The government of China has pardoned Yemen of ¥ 700 million of its debt.

In a meeting for Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulmalik al-Mikhlafi with Chinese Ambassador to Yemen Tian Qi on Wednesday, the ambassador handed over al-Mikhlafi a memo includes final agreement of the Chinese government to exempt Yemen from its debt to China.

The agreement was based on prior agreement between ministers of foreign affairs of the two countries while in a meeting in Doha last year.

Ambassador Qi also handed over Minister al-Mikhlafi a memo includes providing Yemen with 120 small sets generating power from sun and 10 other big sets, all cost ¥ 500,000.

The meeting also dealt with mutual relations between the two countries and latest developments in Yemen.

Al-Mikhlafi, who thanked Chinese government for the exemption, praised efforts of China for supporting the government under President Hadi in international forums and for its remarkable support in field of health, relief and education.

"The government of Yemen supports peace efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen Ismael OuldCheikh and welcomes any initiative based on the three basic foundations represented in the Gulf Initiative and its Executive Mechanism, the Outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the UN Security Council's resolutions led by Resolution 2216," said al-Mikhlafi.

He confirmed that concerned ministries will finalize measures of signing the agreement of the exemption of debts and receive assistances and support from China.

Ambassador Qi informed Foreign Minister that the second relief aid will arrive in Aden soon after the arrival of the first batch, confirming his country's support for peace in the framework of the three basic foundations.

He renewed his country's support for political, humanitarian and relief support to Yemen.
