Yemen is facing two forms of terrorism, one practiced by al-Qaeda organization and another by the Houthi organization, Foreign Minister Abdul-Malik al-Mekhlafi told Weixiong Chen, the Acting Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) of the United Nations Security Council.

Al-Mekhlafi met Chen in New York on Wednesday to discuss cooperation between Yemen and the CTED in fighting terrorism and rebuilding the counter-terrorism apparatus of the country.

He said that the Houthiorganization which is now in rebellion "practices all manifestations of violence, including assassinations of oppositionists and detonation of their houses, which is the same modus operandi of al-Qaeda."

On his part, Mr. Weixiong Chen expressed the readiness of the CTED to cooperate and coordinate with the Yemeni government in identifying the needs of its counter-terrorism apparatus, setting priorities in the rebuilding tasks of the apparatus and coordinating with the international partners in assisting the apparatus in its functioning.

The two officials agreed on arranging a CTED visit to Aden concerning terror fighting and assessing the needs of for the apparatus. They also discussed the arrangements for al-Mekhlafi's meeting with the UNSC's Counter-terrorism Committee before the of this year as per the invitation of the committee to explain the government's trends for fighting terrorism.
