ICRC collects testimonies about rebel militias' abuses
[16/08/2017 05:30]

MARIB-SABA
A mission from the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) visiting Marib province has collected testimonies from survivors about violations they were subjected to by the Saleh-Houthi coup militias.

A number of mothers and wives of men forcibly disappeared by the militant group testified to the mission headed by Habeeb Ali Moqri in a session that was attended by Marib dep. governor Abdu RabbuMiftah.

Whole households displaced from the militia-held provinces of Sana'a, Dhamar, Saadah, Hajja, Hamran and Mahweet provided detailed descriptions of the traumatic experiences they and other civilians were subjected to by the militia.

Survivors reported that the militias abducted their relatives from the markets, streets or in nighttime raids on their houses. Men, women and children were among the arrested.

Many of the abductees died of horrible torture in jails while family members stayed tightlipped out of fear for their own lives.

The militias also recruited minors as soldiers and detonated houses and properties of oppositionists. A long list of abuses were narrated by the interviewed IDPs who found in Marib a safe haven from the persecution of the group.

The victims complained of a persistent problem that follows them regardless where they settle; the misery of abject poverty.

Moqri said that this was the first visit by an ICRC mission to Marib and will be followed by several other visits to assess their humanitarian situations.

He hailed local authority of Marib for accommodating and offering the best it can to these IDPs.
