The Central Bank of Yemen's Board of Directors discussed on Sunday supplying the bank with banknotes printed abroad to the bank's headquarter in interim capital of Aden.

In a press release issued after the meeting, Governor of the CBY Munassar al-Quaiti said the Board of the Directors "discussed obstacles facing preparations for transporting and importing the funds due to ban receiving these funds via areal transportation by a cell in the Arab Coalition for unknown reasons since April 2017."

"Permissions for 13 flights to Aden have been cancelled without justifications," added al-Quaiti, talking about flights loaded with banknotes printed outside the country and banned from landing in Aden. "The sponsoring committee failed reaching decisions on this issue."

" The Board expressed its astonishment and deep concern over these obstacles as they hinder the Central Bank of Yemen's functions and its legal duties in providing enough and suitable currency for the Yemeni economy in accordance with the the Central Bank's law No. 14 for 2000 for paying salaries of the State's Administrative Apparatus," the release went on.

Governor al-Quaiti continued that such deliberately-made obstacles "defame the Central Bank of Yemen and its executive management as they introduce the bank's leadership as botched in performing its duties and deprive huge number of the employees of their salaries and causing to the Yemeni economy dangerous hurdles for providing currency."

"In front of these conditions, the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Yemen decided continuous communication with the command of the Arab Coalition, regional community and international community for boosting the independence of the Central Bank and respecting its performance of its legal functions, taking into consideration independence and sovereignty of this institution on Yemeni level and making it away of mixing political papers and aftermaths of political differences by all parties and respect independence and sovereignty of the republic of Yemen," the governor concluded.
