Al-Yamany: Peace based on the three references more urgent than before
[12/07/2017 08:46]

NEWYORK-SABA
Yemen's Envoy to the United Nations Khaled al-Yamani has confirmed that peace, which is based on the three references agreed upon regionally and internationally; the Gulf Initiative, the Outcomes of the Natoinal Dialogue Conference and UN Resolution 2216, have become more urgent in Yemen than before.

Those references have been and still the main motive for the United Nations and the UN envoy's efforts to achieve a breakthrough in peace, said al-Yemani in a speech for the Republic of Yemen he delivered before the UN Security Council in a setting on the Middle East's status quo.

The Government of Yemen is still ready to provide all concessions whatever difficult for peace the Yemeni people deserve because we believe that war is triggered by adventurers and fool people and peace is the industry of the brave, he said.

" My country, Yemen, is facing nowadays severe and very complicated humanitarian and health conditions after passing nearly two years and half of the bloody coup carried out by Houthi militia in coalition with former President and support from Iran, the sponsor of terrorism in the world," said al-Yamani .

"Today, Gentlemen, Yemen has become a headline for death, poverty and diseases caused by these militias since September 2014."

He added that the humanitarian, health and environment conditions at rebel's (Houthi-Saleh's militias) held areas are increasingly complicated with eruption of cholera epidemic, which takes lives of hundreds of Yemenis, he said.

"Despite appeals of the International Community and efforts exerted by World Health Organization, Humanitarian Office, World Food Program and of King Salman Center for Humanitarian Activities, the militias reject cooperation and insist on punishing our people thinking that aggrandizing humanitarian and health crises will push the international community to impose a solution and political concessions," he added.

He reminded that the government confirmed in its release issued last June, 3, its continuous support to the UN envoy's efforts and confirmed acceptance of his recent ideas he made to President Hadi last May on organizing withdrawal of militias from Hodeida in light of Kuwait Talks and formation a committee to help the government pay salaries of its employees.

He noted to weak performance of the UN Humanitarian Coordinator Office, which included in different correspondences with the UN General Secretariat on non- professional activities of the Resident Coordinator and his bias for the militias and neglecting catastrophic situations in Taiz, which his besieged by the militias for more than two years.

During the past June, the Yemeni Coalition for Counting Human Rights Violations has documented 917 violation cases by Houthi militias; killing 180 civilians and injuring 205 others, he said, adding 236 people have been kidnapped and 33 cases forcibly disappearance.

While he thanked efforts of the UN Security Council, he called its members to continue their unified efforts for ending the crisis in Yemen via adoption a firm attitude towards rebels and put more pressure on them to abide by the resolutions of the international legitimacy and respect the International Humanitarian Law.
