"The US Treasury Department have informed us that they lifted the ban on the government 's bank accounts and that they would seek to have a similar lifting in other friendly countries (to Yemen)," the head of Yemen's government, Ahmed Obeid bin-Dghar said Thursday.

The premier was speaking to top officials from the Central Bank of Yemen CBY and the Ministry of Finance in a meeting he chaired in Aden on Thursday. The meeting was held to address the difficulties faced by the CBY and the ministry in their function, with a view to resolving those difficulties and setbacks.

The premier said the government took the brave decision of relocating the CBY to the temporary capital, Aden, after the coup militia had emptied its treasuries, including all the foreign cash reserves, which they used for their war. They had reached a point at which they were no longer able to pay the public servicemen's salaries. This required the historical decision of CBY relocation, he said.

The acting governor of the CBY briefed the premier on the achievements the CBY management had achieved in the past despite the scarcity of resources. And was able with these efforts to print more paper currency banknotes to provide liquid assets."

The Finance Minister said his ministry has been paying the salaries of public servicemen in government-controlled provinces on a regular basis at the end of every month up to June.

He said it sent off the payments for Taiz employees and employees of certain installations in other coup militia-controlled provinces. This is despite the militias' fail to hand over the reveneues they collect to the CBY.
