The announcement of cholera-related emergency in Aden and the surrounding provinces was meant to prod the citizens into take personal precautionary measure against infection, a source in the Prime Minister's office said.
The government had announced yesterday a state of health emergency after some cholera cases were reported in Abyan and the infection spread to other southern provinces, including Aden, was feared.
The emergency declaration came after medical experts convening in a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister said the acute diarrhea cases reported were found to be a cholera plague, said the source.
"The findings made it then compelling on the government to be frank and announce the plague to the people and international community," said the source.
The director general of Aden Health Ministry branch office announced in the abovementioned meeting that the reported cases of acute diarrhea and associated vomit reached in two months to today 7,246 cases, said the source. "Of these cases 46 ended as fatalities."
"In Dhale'a more than 10 thousand cases were reported, 50 cases ended in death," the source quoted the Health Ministry branch official as saying.
