Yemeni, UN officials discuss humanitarian situation in Yemen

Geneva-Saba - Human Rights Minster Mohammed Askar on Thursday met here Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kate Gilmore, discussing humanitarian situation in Yemen as well as attacks carried out by the Houthi-Saleh militia against Yemenis.

The meeting touched on developing the performance of the National Committee for Investigating Claims of Human Rights Violations and enhancing the capacity of Yemen's Human Rights Ministry.

Askar also met with Deputy Chairperson of the International Committee for Red Christian Barely and Coordination of Middle East of ICRC Yahya Khaleel.

The minister presented a detailed explanation about the suffering of detainees and forcedly disappeared persons, particularly Defense Minister Mahmoud al-Subaihi, the politician Mohammed Qahtan, Maj. Gen. Nasser Hadi and others.

In the meeting in which the rehabilitation of Yemen prisons and awareness of international law were discussed, Askar called for putting pressures on the Houthi-Saleh militia to release detainees, particularly as cholera epidemic has broken out in some Yemeni governorates, including the capital Sana'a.
