Arab League Secretary General commends Yemen positive stance toward UN peace proposal

The Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abu El Gheyt commended the Yemeni government's positive stance toward the peace proposal of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ahmed Ould Cheikh.

In a phone conversation with Yemen's Foreign Minister , Abdul-Malik al-Mekhlafi, the Arab League Secretary General expressed his support to the UN envoy's efforts for achieving settlement according to the three agreed upon references. El Gheit said his organization will do all what it takes to fulfill the Yemeni people's dream of peace and stability.

El Gheit said he will work to maintain in the League the pan-Arab approach for a united peaceful Yemen with territorial integrity and guarded from Iran's expansionist ambitions that target security in the Arab countries.

The two officials also discussed Yemen's agreement to the UN envoy Ould Cheikh's proposal for a militia handover of the Hodeidah and the modality of collecting revenues in Hodeidah in a manner that enables the resumption of paying salaries to state employees.

On his part al-Mekhlafi thanked the Arab League for standing to the side of Yemen, as a government and people. "The government is keen to end the war and establish peace and security," said the minister. "Rather we are working to achieve it by all means in cooperation with Arab and international parties according to the three agreed upon references. For the references are core of political settlement and the only means to spare blood and souls."

The minister said the Saleh-Houthi militias are however dodging the peace terms of reference by ways of deception and misleading.

"The humanitarian situation has become even worse especially in the areas still under the control of the militias." The minister said that the
