Al-Yamani: Houthi and ISIL terrorism turned our nations' life into a nightmare
[30/05/2017 09:12]

NEWYORK-SABA
Yemen's permanent representative to the UN Security Council said "the terrorism of the Houthi organization, ISIL and al-Qaeda, as manipulated by mysterious elements of the Iranian intelligence, has turned our nations' life into a nightmare."

In a speech at the Council, Khaled Hussein Alyemani said: "The coup in Yemen has dashed the Yemen people's dream articulated in the National Dialogue Outcomes; the dream and hope of a federal democratic state in which power and wealth is equally divided amongst its citizens."

This war has never been the choosing of the Yemeni government led by President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi. But it was inevitability on us since all peaceful choices were exhausted despite the big concessions offered to avoid it, Al-Yamani said.

Various excerpts from the speech:

"I want to reiterate the Yemeni government and people's solidarity with Ismail Ould Chiekh the UN special envoy and their condemnation of the assassination attempt on him in the Yemeni capital occupied by Houthi militias that are allied with the ex-president's forces."

"Regrettably the UN special envoy's last visit to Sana'a was met with obstinacy and an attack (assassination attempt)) by the rebel party. Here we are in Ramadan standing by as another opportunity (for peace) get lost. This worsens the suffering of a people already a hostage to the militias of death."

More than two years since the coup "Yemen is experiencing today absolutely one of the severest humanitarian miseries: The casualties toll because of the coup is on the rise; Yemenis were displaced all over the world and went astray; famine and epidemics spread, most recent is the alarming proliferation of cholera. A disease Yemen had in the past years wiped out, thanks to the help of the international community. Ladies and gentlemen, Yemen, today, is a horrifying scene in the Divine Comedy of Dante in which death eclipses all colors and humanitarian pain is the dominating thing."

"It is very regrettable that the arrival of the UN special envoy to Yemen coincides with the Houthi militia's committing of another horrible massacre against civilians in Taiz city, which is under a two years old siege. The massacre resulted in the martyrdom of 50 innocent civilians most of them women and children. Among them are also five journalists. (This happens) In the midst of an appalling international silence. Here is a photo of Elyas Aqlan, a six-year-old child, who was slain by Howzer shell in Adhaboa neighborhood in Taiz in the afternoon of 23 May. His innocent tear will continue to chase the criminals until justice is realized for him and other children and innocent casualties. Elyas serves as a reminder of Fareed Al-Dhamari, a five-year-old, who was killed in a previous Houthi massacre as a result of a mortar round in October 13, 2015 in Taiz . In his last moments he was crying and saying to the doctors 'Don't Bury Me'. His story moved the former US special representative to the UN Samanth Power."

"Dear President (of the UNSC) How many letters I have written to the UN Secretary General about the detainees and I received not event a single response. It is as though the Universal Humanitarian Law is has nothing to do with this gang is doing in Yemen."

"At the end, I can only confirm our satisfaction, the Yemeni government, that the real, effective and sustainable remedy for the deteriorated humanitarian and economic situations in Yemen comes by the ending of the coup and the restoration of the state and state institutions and re-normalization of life."
