The governor of the Central Bank of Yemen announced that the security authorities have arrested a number of cardboard boxes containing imitation bills of the Yemeni Rials currency, in YR 5,000 banknotes. The notes are designed as cashier's cheques.

"A fraud like this is a criminal violation of the law," said the bank's governor, Munassar Al-Quayti.

It is believed that the rebel Houthi gangs in Sana'a are behind this forgery, said Al-Quayti.

"Earlier, these gangs had previously issued vouchers that bear various values of no legal status and put them into circulation to deprive the victims of their financial rights and waste their wealth."

We warn that this paper money is fake and all its users are liable to big loss, he said. The CBY urged all people to avoid such bills, vouchers and cheques for the preservation of their money and for the safety of the national economy.
