Yemen condemns assassination attempt against UN Envoy
[22/05/2017 07:17]

Aden (Saba)- Yemen's Foreign Ministry has condemned the assassination attempt against the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Esmail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

Elements of the Houthi-Saleh militias on Monday shot fire on the convoy of Ould Cheikh Ahmed close to Sana'a Airport.

In a statement, which the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) obtained a copy of it, the foreign ministry held the Houthi-Saleh militias fully responsible for this assassination attempt .

"No side could carry out such attack in the heart of Sana'a, which is governed by the militias' iron fist without coordination with leaders of the coup," the statement added.

The statement made clear that this attack came while the UN Special Envoy exerts efforts in Sana'a for the sake of peace, pointing out that attack on the UN official is clear-cut evidence that the militias will not stop their aggressions on the Yemeni people and neighboring countries.

Deputy Prime Foreign Minister and Foreign Minister Abdul-Malik al-Mikhalafi had contacted Ould Cheikh Ahmed before he headed to Sana'a, reaffirming that the Yemeni government supports his efforts on the basis of the three basic terms of references.
