Riyadh (Saba)- The UN Special Envoy to Yemen Esmail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on Thursday met here the ambassadors of the countries sponsoring the UN-brokered initiative, giving them an overview about Yemen's developments.
He thanked the support of the GCC States and the countries sponsoring the GCC-mediated deal, voicing hope that they will continue supporting efforts exerted by the United Nations to reach a reconciliation in Yemen.
GCC Assistant Secretary General for Political and Negotiations Affairs Dr. Abdulaziz bin Hamad Al-Owaisheq, in a press statement, made clear that Ould Cheikh Ahmed introduced them to efforts exerted to resume consultation between Yemen's parties in order to terminate the conflict and reach a reconciliation in accordance with the GCC-brokered initiative, outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the UN Resolution 2216.
Al-Owaisheq reiterated that the Gulf Cooperation Council is committed to the UN attempts aiming at reaching a reconciliation and putting an end to the crisis.
He also said that GCC States provide humanitarian assistances and relief to the Yemeni people, referring to the meeting held in Riyadh on this week to support Yemen.
