ABEGS denounces UNICEF's print of sectarian schoolbooks

Riyadh (Saba)- Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) has denounced support provided by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to print schoolbooks which were distorted with sectarian ideologies.

Secretary-General of ABEGS Ali Qarni said, in a press release the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) obtained a copy of it, that the Houthi-Saleh militias printed schoolbooks which were distorted with sectarian ideologies.

The release quoted Yemeni officials as saying that these schoolbooks incite to the continuation of war and violence in Yemen.

ABEGS said that the act of UNECIF contradicts noble values, the UN chart and conventions, Child Protection Bill and the relevant UN resolutions.

The release also spelt out that the support of printing such schoolbooks would encourage the militias to print further books on a sectarian basis, calling Director of UNICEF Anthony Lake to reconsider stances of UNICEF and probe into the case of printing sectarian schoolbooks in Yemen.
