MARIB-SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, Major General Sultan al-Arada, met on Monday with German Ambassador to Yemen Thomas Schneider and his accompanying delegation to discuss the political, humanitarian and development situation in Yemen, as well as prospects for expanding cooperation between the two friendly countries.

At the meeting, attended by Deputy German Ambassador Sophia Hertzberg, al-Arada welcomed the German delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a reflection of Germany’s continued interest in Yemen and its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at promoting stability and development.

He said Germany has played an important role in supporting the Yemeni people and helping strengthen the resilience of local communities facing growing challenges stemming from the conflict and the actions of the Iran-backed Houthi militia.

Al-Arada highlighted the depth of Yemeni-German relations, describing them as a longstanding and successful partnership that has witnessed steady growth across political, humanitarian and development sectors over the past decades.

He also praised Germany’s constructive positions on Yemen in international forums and its continued support for United Nations efforts, emphasizing the importance of broadening bilateral cooperation in ways that serve shared interests and further strengthen ties between the two countries.

The PLC member called on the international community to increase assistance to the Yemeni government as it works to address ongoing humanitarian and economic challenges.

He stressed the need for greater funding for humanitarian operations, recovery programs and sustainable development projects, noting that declining international support in recent years has adversely affected key sectors, including healthcare, education, water and other essential public services.

Al-Arada also reviewed the situation in Marib Governorate, highlighting the extraordinary pressures created by the continued influx of internally displaced persons from various parts of the country.

He noted that Marib remains a safe refuge for hundreds of thousands of displaced Yemenis, placing significant demands on local authorities, infrastructure and public services despite limited resources and capacities.

He outlined efforts undertaken by the local authority to maintain security and stability, strengthen the performance of public institutions and continue implementing infrastructure and service projects under difficult circumstances.

For his part, Ambassador Schneider expressed his satisfaction with the visit and commended the level of stability, development and urban growth he observed in Marib despite the exceptional challenges facing the governorate.

He praised the efforts of the local authority in accommodating displaced populations and providing them with a secure environment, describing those achievements as evidence of strong leadership and determination deserving of international support.

The German ambassador reaffirmed his country's commitment to continuing support for Yemen through humanitarian and development programs, projects and partnerships aimed at promoting stability, strengthening local capacities and advancing recovery and reconstruction efforts.

He expressed hope that the coming period would bring tangible progress across various sectors, helping improve living conditions and fulfill the Yemeni people's aspirations for security, stability and sustainable development.
