Minister of Legal Affairs Judge Ishraq al-Maqtari met in the temporary capital, Aden, with Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights representative Mohammed Suleiman to review avenues for strengthening cooperation in legal and legislative fields.

The meeting examined the ministry’s efforts to improve and modernize Yemen’s legislative framework, with a focus on reinforcing legal protections for fundamental rights and freedoms in a way that supports the Yemen’s commitments under international human rights conventions.

Discussions also addressed the long-standing cooperation between the ministry and the UN rights office, which began in 2013 and 2014. Both sides underscored the importance of advancing joint efforts and resuming discussions on the draft transitional justice law, with the aim of moving the legislation forward through a balanced legal and human rights-based approach.
