The Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Governor of Hadramout governorate Salem al-Khanbashi underscored the importance of authorizing local authorities in the governorates broader powers in order to be capable to do their jobs effectively and contribute toward promoting the principle of administrative decentralization and bringing decision-making closer to the needs of the local community.
He said "The current stage requires redefining the relationship between the central government and local authorities on the basis of effective partnership and real integration in order to ensure empowering the governorates to perform their tasks and benefit from their revenues and resources more efficiently and independently".
He made his comment as he contributed to a workshop entitled (Partnership and Integration between the Government and Local Authority), started today, Sunday, in the city of al-Mukalla.
The workshop organized by the Ministry of Local Administration with the support of the German Berghof Foundation and the Political Development Forum, with wide participation from officials, specialists, and local authority representatives from the governorates of Hadhramaut, Al-Mahra, Shabwa, Marib and Socotra.
