[30/04/2026 12:42]

CAIRO – SABA

The Speaker of the Parliament Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani discussed on Wednesday with the French Ambassador to Yemen Catherine Corm-Kammoun latest national and regional developments.

The meeting addressed ongoing efforts to restore economic recovery and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, attended by the Minister of Oil and Minerals, Eng. Mohammed Bamagha, al-Barakani reviewed a number of challenges facing the country led by economic difficulties resulting from the suspension of oil and gas exports and their direct impact on public revenues and the state’s ability to meet its obligations.

He emphasized that resuming oil and gas exports is a top priority to support the national economy and meet financial requirements, despite the complexities posed by regional developments and the practices of the Houthi terrorist militia, which have hindered economic stability efforts.

He stressed that achieving any economic progress requires a stable environment and coordinated policies.

For his part, the Minister of Oil and Minerals highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts, pointing to recent meetings with Total Energies that discussed operational resumption, maintenance phases and related agreements to ensure continued cooperation and strengthen partnership. He noted the importance of expanding cooperation with the company to improve production efficiency, in addition to revisiting agreement pricing in line with economic changes.
The minister affirmed that the government, in coordination with relevant authorities, is working to increase gas production and maximize the utilization of its resources, alongside intensifying measures to curb smuggling operations carried out by the Houthi militia, contributing to the protection of national resources and enhancing economic stability. He also noted tangible progress in addressing the domestic gas crisis despite existing challenges.

For her part, the French Ambassador underscored the importance of economic recovery in Yemen and the need to resume and expand oil and gas exports as key drivers of public revenue and financial stability.

She commended the government’s measures under its economic reform program aimed at improving financial and administrative performance and addressing existing imbalances, praising the role of Prime Minister Dr. Shaya Zindani, as well as the resumption of activities and programs by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

She also reaffirmed her country’s commitment to supporting Yemen and its keenness to continue partnership with the legitimate government in a way that enhances political and economic stability and advances the peace process, in addition to contributing to meeting humanitarian and development priorities in the coming phase.
