Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Abdulrahman A al-Muharrami discussed Wednesday with United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Yemen Abda Sharif political, security and economic issues of mutual interest.
The meeting addressed the historical relations between the two friendly countries and ways to strengthen them, as well as priorities for British and international support to the government—particularly in supporting economic recovery, enhancing the efficiency of state institutions and enabling them to establish security and stability.
Both sides also discussed coordinating efforts to deter shared threats, led by combating terrorism and organized crime, securing international navigation and countering Houthi threats.
Al-Muharrami expressed appreciation for the United Kingdom’s supportive position toward Yemen, praising its role as an active partner in supporting peace efforts and humanitarian response and stressing the importance of continuing this support at this stage.
Regarding the political process, the meeting reviewed the latest developments amid regional and international efforts to revive a comprehensive settlement process.
Al-Muharrami affirmed that the option of peace remains on the table, stressing that if the Houthi militias refuse to engage, security and military readiness remain in place to take necessary deterrent measures to contain threats and reinforce stability.
He also highlighted the importance of the anticipated intra-southern dialogue scheduled to be held in Riyadh under the auspices of Saudi Arabia, describing it as a pivotal step toward strengthening southern unity and building a shared vision that meets the requirements of the next phase.
For her part, the British Ambassador praised al-Muharrami’s efforts in establishing security and stability in the temporary capital of Aden and the liberated governorates.
She affirmed the United Kingdom’s continued support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in a way that helps alleviate citizens’ suffering and achieve their aspirations for peace, stability and development.
