Minister Mashdal Discusses Strengthening Partnership with International Organization for Migration
[21/04/2026 05:57]

ADEN – SABA
Minister of Human Rights Mashdal Mohammed discussed Tuesday with the Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Abdulsattar Issouyef ways to enhance joint cooperation in the humanitarian field, particularly regarding migration issues.

During the meeting, they discussed mechanisms to develop partnership and coordination between the Yemeni government and the organization in order to improve responses to challenges related to migrant flows, contribute to enhancing protection levels, and improve humanitarian services provided to migrants, in line with international human rights standards.

Minister Mashdal praised the organization’s efforts in supporting migrants, affirming that the government gives this issue high priority amid the exceptional circumstances facing the country and the increasing humanitarian challenges they impose.

For his part, Deputy Minister Nabil Abdulhafeez noted that the continued flow of migrants from the Horn of Africa through Yemen’s long coastline creates growing humanitarian challenges, affecting migrants’ conditions and basic needs.

He pointed out that these challenges intersect with the internal displacement crisis, which has left more than five million displaced persons due to the war, further increasing pressure on resources and services.

He stressed the importance of strengthening coordination to ensure a more effective response.

Meanwhile, the Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration expressed his appreciation for good cooperation with the Ministry of Human Rights, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to expanding areas of partnership with the Yemeni government to strengthen support programs for migrants, especially in the fields of healthcare and protection.
