RIYADH – SABA
Presidential Leadership Council member Sheikh Othman Mujalli met on Thursday with the United States Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, current developments in Yemen and the region, the need to protect shared interests, preserve freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, strengthen the presence of the Yemeni state, and support its security, military, and service institutions.
Mujalli pointed out that the state of international leniency toward Iranian interference in Yemen over recent years and the failure to heed the voices of the Yemeni people in their battle against the Houthi terrorist militia backed by the Iranian regime, has led to hostile consequences.
These included Iran’s ballistic missile and drone attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and Jordan.
He also said Iran has used the Strait of Hormuz to blackmail the international community by mining international waters, just as it previously used its Houthi proxies in the Red Sea as pressure cards and a terrorist weapon to choke the world.
Mujalli explained that the Presidential Leadership Council is focused on supporting the government in restoring its role and effective presence on the ground, benefiting from the significant opportunity for the success of the government of Dr. Shaya Zindani.
He noted that the government has been granted full powers to address financial and economic conditions, improve services.
The government includes highly qualified leadership and administrative expertise.
It also enjoys sponsorship and support from the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in various fields affecting the lives of Yemeni citizens.
For his part, U.S. Ambassador Steven Fagin praised the cooperation shown by the Presidential Leadership Council in combating terrorism, strengthening the role of the Coast Guard to fight smuggling and piracy.
He pointed out to supporting the government if Yemen in implementing economic reform plans and creating new opportunities that match the aspirations of the Yemeni people in all governorates.
