TAIZ – SABA
The government committee assigned to assess flood damage headed by Minister of Local Administration Eng. Badr Basalama conducted Wednesday a field visit to review the extent of the destruction caused by floods in several areas of the districts of al-Mudhaffar, al-Qahira, Mocha Mawza and al-Wazi’iyah in Taiz Governorate.

The committee, which includes Minister of State Walid al-Qudami and representatives from relevant ministries and agencies and accompanied by Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan, visited Seena riverbed, al-Qahira Castle, al-Saeed Street and other impacted sites.

They received detailed briefings from the directors of al-Qahira and al-Mudhaffar districts, as well as the Public Works Office, regarding flood drainage channels and collection systems, and the damage caused by the washing away of foundation stones in Seena riverbed.

Officials also stressed the importance of rehabilitating the area and completing the remaining phases of the flood channel project to help protect the city from future flood disasters.

They also discussed repairs to al-Saeed Street and several mountain roads leading to rural areas and villages in Saber and other districts.

The committee also visited al-Makazmah Bridge in Jabal Habashi District, Wadi Mawza Bridge, the areas of al-Zahari and al-Kadahah, along with several villages and rural communities, where they reviewed damage to water passages and agricultural lands caused by the floods.

The committee heard from the directors of Mocha, Mawza and al-Wazi’iyah districts detailed explanations about the scale of damage impacting valleys, roads, facilities, water networks, and homes.

They also reviewed damage to bridges and water drainage culverts, as well as losses to citizens’ property and residences, based on statistical reports.

Officials highlighted the need to mobilize support to meet the needs of those affected, especially families who lost their homes and farmland.

The committee chairman affirmed that the visit aimed to evaluate the scale of the damage and prepare a comprehensive program that includes a recovery vision, while submitting the necessary reports to the government outlining required needs and solutions, in coordination with local, regional, and international organizations, to help reduce the impact of the disaster.
