The Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi held a meeting Wednesday via video conference with the executive management of the Dutch company “MetaMeta” to explore ways of strengthening cooperation in the water and environmental sectors.
The meeting discussed prospects for collaboration in integrated water resources management, development of information systems, and institutional capacity building.
It also reviewed ongoing projects, including technical rehabilitation programs and hydrological studies in the Tuban Delta and Wadi Mawza.
Minister al-Sharjabi praised the company’s work in Yemen since 2004, emphasizing that improving the reliability of water data is a priority for making science-based decisions and increasing the efficiency of development interventions.
He stressed the importance of completing the infrastructure damage assessment report, as it represents a key step toward developing a technical roadmap to support reconstruction efforts and attract funding. He also noted that the water crisis in Taiz is at the top of the ministry’s priorities, with plans to prepare technical studies in cooperation with UNICEF to find sustainable solutions, alongside expanding wastewater treatment projects and improving sanitation services in several cities.
