The Government of Japan and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have signed a memorandum of understanding to provide a grant supporting a project aimed at improving the living conditions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Marib Governorate, valued at approximately 840 million Japanese yen, equivalent to about $5.3 million.

According to a statement issued by the Japanese Embassy to Yemen, a copy of which was received by the Yemen News Agency (SABA), the project aims to enhance living conditions for displaced people and host communities through the rehabilitation of health and medical facilities, the development of disaster management infrastructure, and the construction of shelters for displaced families in Marib Governorate.

The statement noted that Yemen has been severely affected by the ongoing conflict for years. Marib Governorate hosts the largest number of internally displaced persons in the country, estimated at around 1.8 million people, with more than 60 percent living in emergency shelters or tents.
