Yemen Renews Firm Commitment to Principles of UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights
[25/02/2026 07:32]
GENEVA – SABA

The Republic of Yemen has reaffirmed its firm commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

It also expressed commitment to all international instruments to which it is a party, despite the exceptional challenges the country continues to face as a result of the coup carried out by the Houthi terrorist militias and its serious repercussions on human rights, as well as humanitarian and economic conditions.

This came in Yemen’s statement delivered by the Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Ambassador Dr. Ali Mujawar, during the high-level segment of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council.

The session was attended by a number of heads of state and government, ministers, and senior UN officials, at a time when the United Nations system faces growing political and financial challenges and the multilateral system is undergoing unprecedented pressure and tests.

He referred to developments that took place in Yemen last December, notably the coup-related movements led by the so-called Southern Transitional Council, with external support, which nearly undermined the stability of the state and its territorial unity, threatened national gains, and risked pushing the country toward a new open conflict.

He stressed that any attempts to impose a political reality by force only lead to further violations, undermine state institutions, and weaken the human rights protection system.

The Ambassador also noted the fraternal intervention by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which stemmed from its commitment to Yemen’s unity, security, and stability, and helped spare the country from a new internal confrontation whose consequences would have directly affected civilians and regional peace and stability.

He emphasized that achieving comprehensive and sustainable peace represents the true gateway to improving the human rights situation in Yemen, renewing his call on the international community to support state institutions and back efforts to restore stability in a manner that ensures the protection of human rights and preserves the dignity of the Yemeni people.
